About Leo

Hey I’m Leo, from the sunny Perth, Western Australia. I'm a self-taught Product Designer that’s not shy of diving into the deep end to discover digital solutions to some of society’s toughest problems. I help organisations grow, learn and solve user problems.

I started my career as a Graphic Designer at a web design agency. Early on, I transitioned to Product Design where I’ve spent over 9 years evolving and developing methods to understand why people do the things they do and ways to deliver captivating and seamless experiences to them.

Working in a range of diverse industries including education, healthcare, machine learning/computer vision, SaaS and non-profits has given me a broad perspective that I draw from when crafting solutions. I'm lucky to have spent my time working within  environments ranging from 2 people startups (my own) to companies valued over $200 million.

I’m as comfortable leading, mentoring and managing people as I am running user research programs and design thinking workshops. As an IC hybrid, I still get down and dirty defining user personas, mapping user flows, sketching wireframes and rapidly iterating through prototypes to uncover usability gems. My guilty pleasure is creating product documentation that leaves devs without words...

To me, design really shines when all stars align. Having experience in all stages of decision making process within multiple businesses, I understand the importance of organisational alignment, expectation setting and good communication. This has helped me to deliver solutions that solve fundamental user problems and meet fundamental business needs.

I love being around people and building strong, respectful relationships with anyone I meet or work with. I’ve been lucky to have worked closely with founders, product owners, product teams, support staff, sales & marketing teams and everyone in between. Regardless of who you are in the business, we’re on the same team :).

What I do for fun

In my personal life I also don’t shy away from challenging myself physically or mentally. A curious, calculated risk taker (says my mum). I thoroughly enjoy the outdoors.

Ultra-marathon running

I developed a love for running stupid distances in 2021. Last year I ran my first 50 mile (84km) race in 13 hours. I ticked off 5 marathons in the training for it.

Kite surfing

Living in the windiest city in the world has its advantages. I’ve been an avid kitesurfer for the past 4 years. Highest jump so far: 9.4 metres.

Hiking & camping

I try and balance the amount of time I spend in front of my computer by spending as much time outside soaking in the delights nature has to offer.

What I'm learning

I mainly learn from doing, however, I do like to get stuck into online courses.
